Homes away from Home: Numero 6 Calle Castillo, Andalucia
This thousand year old Moorish house is at the very top of one of the whitest of the pueblos blancos, the gleaming cubist towns of western Andalucia. Numero 6 Calle del Castillo is one of the oldest houses in Vejer de La Frontera and is a series of beautiful rooms built around an inner courtyard with vines, lemon trees and a small pool to help temper the strong summer sun.
The house sleeps up to 7 people in four bedrooms and as you can see from these gorgeous pictures, it is a charming and charismatic old Moorish property that has been updated sympathetically throughout, keeping the original stone floors and beamed ceilings as well as a cave and a well. The more recent additions include a dishwasher, television and DVD player providing modern comforts as well as the rustic charm.
It provides a perfect opportunity to stay in the heart of a real community within one of the most fascinating parts of southern Spain. This area has not been spoilt by tourism and is authentic and atmospheric with vast areas of virgin national park nearby as well as some fantastic beaches.
