If you really want to add some shabby chic style to your garden this summer, then the ultimate accessory is one of these beautifully crafted Shepherd’s Hut from Huts and Hideaways. Since the new wave of luxury huts started appearing a few years ago, I have been dreaming of a garden large enough to have one tucked away at the bottom. A secret place to escape with a good book, somewhere to while away an afternoon daydreaming, writing or even just snoozing out of the sun. Sadly I don’t have space yet, but one day I will and when I do I’ll be heading straight to Huts and Hideaways to place my order!

Following on from yesterday’s collaboration between Rachel Ashwell and House of Fraser, today I am sharing another, this time between one of my favourite designers and country brand, Barbour. One of the conditions relating to our move back to the UK, is that we are all (including Coco) allowed to get a new Barbour! Not since leaving my rustic prep school have I worn one; mine at the time was third hand at least and well and truly worn out, so I am particularly grateful to Temperley for updating the designs just in time for my purchase! Not only will it keep me very warm and dry, but hanging it on the coat rack will add so much style to the front hall!

Having spent the majority of the summer in temperatures above 30 degrees (not as great as it sounds when working all day instead of relaxing by the pool!), I am getting very excited about our move back to the UK and the cooler climes there. When the Mallorquin midday heat becomes too much for me and siesta is calling, I love nothing more than finding a shady spot in the garden to read a good book or have a little snooze; a very indulgent part of my day and one that got me thinking about the perfect seating for such an activity! Here are some of the top ideas I have found whilst browsing Pinterest; I am hoping to make a snoozeworthy seat a key part of our garden in our little cottage by the sea and have my reading material all lined up and ready to go:
  • Persuasion by Jane Austen – the only novel of hers that I haven’t yet read and set along the coast from where we will be living.
  • Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier – this is one of my all time favourites, but the West Country coastal setting means I am desperate to read it again.
  • House by the Sea by Santa Montefiore – the latest book from one of my favourite current authors. I already have it waiting on my bookshelf, but am determined to save it until we are in our very own house by the sea!
I would love to hear your seaside read suggestions as well as any creative ideas for snoozeworthy seating – please get in touch either by commenting below or sending me an email.

Happy weekend!

How can it be August already?? It seems like only yesterday we were celebrating the New Year and it was a similar temperature then to what it is now in Mallorca!  We have experienced a very cool summer so far this year, with much more cloud and rain than normal.  On the plus side we have barely had to turn on the AC or fans and a day in the office is much more bearable; great for those of us living here, but not so great for the holiday makers who currently fill the island…

One of the things I am so looking forward back in England is having the clear, contrasting seasons – here it is pretty much sunshine every day all year round, which I know sounds like bliss and can be, but as with anything you get too much of, you do start to take it for granted after a while. I am excited about the colourful Autumn leaves, cosy Winter by the fire, daffodils and bluebells in Spring and lazy Summer garden parties. As these pictures show, when the weather is playing ball, there is nowhere more beautiful than England in the sunshine.  Have a lovely August!
