Having project managed the build of a house in the Balearics a few years ago and spent four years living in the north of Mallorca, it is a place that I hold very dearly. I was lucky enough this summer to visit both Mallorca and Fomentera (post on the latter coming soon) and of course Ibiza very briefly en route to Fomentera! I dream of renovating a rustic house somewhere the Balearics, particularly today when the temperature has just dropped and it really feels like Winter is on it’s way…

Living in the Mallorca, winters were so sunny and bright and fresh. The temperature would usually be 21 degrees or more in the daytime and cooler at night, so you can still light a fire and dig out your cashmere socks. It was blissful and as we creep towards the UK winter I start to miss it more and more! So I’ve been flicking through fellow blogger Will Bright Bazaar’s latest book Dream Decor and absorbing all the lovely bright colours and mediterranean homes that he features inside. It’s the perfect tonic on a chilly Autumnal day!

Where would your dream renovation project be?

I’m currently working on a post full of Christmas gift ideas, which I hope will be with you by the end of the week. In the meantime I wanted to share one of my favourite gift ideas for this Christmas.  Suitable for all dog lovers, this humorous book by Fenella Smith and The Brothers McLeod {her actual brothers} illustrates over 100 different dog breeds with amusing descriptions. The talented siblings have included everything from aloof Afghan’s to tearaway terriers, even my personal favourite, the Maltese terrier. It’s a good job Coco & Lola can’t read though as the description isn’t totally flattering!

For more information or to buy the book head to Amazon, where it is firmly on my wish list for Christmas!

I can’t wait to share my gift guide with you later this week where there will be more of Fenella’s lovely creations.

This beautiful book has provided me perfect inspiration for some of the rooms I’m designing for my current project. Although the house I’m working on is in London, it has a very country feel and part of my brief is to introduce elements of an elegant country home to the City. As well as helping me with my work, this book is also a delight on a personal level. Who doesn’t dream of owning a Chateau in France that you pick up for a penny as a wreck and then lovingly bring back to life? Or the rundown country Finca in Ibiza, where you work to enhance the natural stone it was originally built with, exposing where possible, whilst adding polished concrete floors that scream modern decadent style!

This book has beautiful images and examples of such properties, as well as a useful guide to building and renovating an old property, breaking down the different components and materials that one might need to use to create a modern rustic haven, which is a really useful addition.

I would highly recommend adding this to your bookshelf and if not something you would treat yourself to {please see my reader offer below} then certainly something to add to your wishlist for Christmas!
