Homes Away From Home: A Romantic Tuscan Escape with Mr & Mrs Smith

For this week's Home Away From Home I was utterly spoilt for choice by the latest guidebook from the world’s leading boutique hotel experts Mr & Mrs Smith. Dedicated to one of my favourite places, Italy, where fantastic food, a wealth of history and culture, stunning landscapes and inspiring interiors all combine to create a destination that really does have something that appeals to everyone. From S├╝dtirol to Sicily, the book contains 32 hand-picked hotels - Italians take pride in their sense of romance, their history and their expertise, from all things cultural to the culinary and this book book celebrates that.

I've selected Follonico hotel set in the rolling hills of Tuscany to highlight as this week's Home Away From Home. I just adore the simple and rustic styling throughout; an ancient typewriter perched on a dressing table, a vintage dress hanging on the wall, playfully mismatched crockery, it's very much a hotel after my own heart.

Double rooms start at €145 a night. For more information or to book head to Mr & Mrs Smith where you can also buy the new Italy book - highly recommended if like me you love to spend time dreaming of Romantic Tuscan escapes!

Your Home: Funky Patchwork Furniture

I am thrilled to have been introduced to Kelly Swallow’s amazing patchwork chairs, which are each individually sourced vintage pieces their own unique charm. The personality is created beautifully with a variety of fabrics and she is happy to also create bespoke designs on request. I am in love with them all, which is your favourite?

My Home: Curtains from Cabbages and Roses

Happy Monday to you all! I hope you had a lovely weekend? I had a very home-focused one searching for inspiration for curtains, as we still don't have any despite now having been in the house for almost three months. It's one of the things I find hardest to choose - adding layers of fabric to a room can totally change the mood, so it is really important to get it right. As this is our first home we have decided to invest in getting our curtains and blinds made for us my a great family friend, which makes decision making even harder as there are just so many beautiful fabrics out there to choose from and we are planning to live with them for a long time! The more I look, the more confused I get.... currently the top collection in the running for our bedroom is Cabbages and Roses and as you can see from these images, the choice is still a hard one as there are so many beautiful designs to choose from...

Your Home: Love at First Sight!

When I first saw these pictures a few weeks ago it was love at first sight. I have been thinking about these rugs far too much; they have even been appearing in my dreams at night.  Luckily we need rugs in our new home, with dark wooden floors throughout we need them to add warmth, colour and texture and I now have my heart set on this amazing runner for the hallway. Custom designed by The Rug Company using Matthew Williamson's wool and silk Peacock Light design, it stretches over four flights of stairs and two landings in this elegant London townhouse. Our landing is a lot smaller and all on the flat, so I'm hoping that they might just about be affordable. Hand-knotted in Nepal and hand-fitted, they certainly aren't the cheapest option, but a worthy investment and something that can stay in the family for years to come. As I said at the start of the post...I am in Love!

My Home: Furniture Painting with Annie Sloan

The third Monday of January is labelled by some as 'blue' monday, the day in which we are all supposed to be at our lowest ebb of the year...I have to say that here in West Dorset the sun is shining and it almost feels as if Spring is in the air. The garden is showing it's first signs of growth {trying to encourage me to get out there and get busy} and I feel full of excitement for the year ahead. Little Miss Homes will be celebrating its first birthday next week and to celebrate I will be launching some new pages, one of which will involve my other new hobby for 2012, painting furniture. I completed a course just before Christmas and absolutely love it! The paint I will be using is by the fabulous Annie Sloan, who is the Jamie Oliver of furniture paint; her recipe is so simple, no sanding or preparation, just apply the paint and the effect you desire and if you don't like it just do it again with a different colour. A fantastic way to upcycle and bring old, tired pieces back to life!

Off to the Piste!

I feel incridibly lucky (& spoilt!) that after only a week back at work we're off to the Alps tomorrow for a week's skiing. I will be back to blogging as usual from Monday 16th January, so wishing you all a wonderful week until then.

My Home: Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope you've had a lovely Christmas break and are feeling as positive and raring to go as I am for 2012. It really helps that the sun is shining and there is still one more day before we officially have to go back to work!  This year is the first year that I have made new year's resolutions that involve an activity or hobby rather than just a thought process {past resolutions include worrying less, eating less chocolate and drinking less wine, none of which I ever managed to stick to...} This year my first resolution is to become passionate about my garden - it is after all the first time I have ever had one and instead of continuing to look at it nervously from time to time hoping the plants will manage themselves, I have decided to embrace it and fill it with all my favourite flowers that I lust after throughout the year. These are just some of my top choices and I can't wait to get planting! I will share my second resolution with you
soon, so watch this space...
